The Solar-Powered Irrigation System Project, amounting to ₱457,506.76, was funded by the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg). The system includes a 2-horsepower solar pump with a built-in controller, powered by six (6) units of 585-watt solar panels, capable of irrigating 5 to 10 hectares of farmland efficiently.
This project aims to provide local farmers with a reliable and cost-efficient water source that enhances crop productivity, strengthens climate resilience, and reduces dependence on fuel-powered irrigation. By harnessing clean, renewable solar energy, this initiative not only promotes environmental stewardship but also supports the province’s vision of achieving sustainable and progressive agricultural development for all.
Moreover, this initiative reflects the Provincial Government’s continuous commitment to empowering local farmers through renewable energy technologies, ensuring sustainable water access for irrigation, and enhancing the overall productivity and resilience of the agriculture sector in Surigao del Sur.
