Strengthening Tourism Initiatives: Highlights of the 1st Quarter Tourism Officers’ Meeting

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Provincial Tourism Office, successfully conducted the 1st Quarter SurSur Tourism Officers’ Meeting, a two-day gathering that brought together tourism officers from various local government units (LGUs) to assess accomplishments, align strategies, and enhance tourism data management across the province, with the full support of the Provincial Governor, Hon. Johnny T. Pimentel and the Provincial Administrator, John Vincent C. Pimentel.

On Day one, discussions centered on provincial-level updates vital to tourism development. The Provincial Tourism Office presented its Annual Accomplishment Report, highlighting key programs and initiatives implemented over the past year. This was followed by updates on Department of Tourism (DOT) accreditation, the Annual Tourism Statistical Report, and identified training needs for Calendar Year 2026 aimed at strengthening the capacity of tourism stakeholders. Updates on tourism cultural properties were also presented, emphasizing heritage conservation and cultural preservation as integral components of sustainable tourism.

Day two featured presentations from each LGU, as tourism officers shared their respective Annual Accomplishment Reports, showcasing local initiatives, best practices, and challenges in tourism implementation.

The meeting concluded with a presentation and workshop on the Tourism Statistical Data System, facilitated by the Provincial Tourism Office Statistical Focal Person in coordination with the Information Technology Unit (ITU). The session aimed to improve data collection, management, and reporting processes, reinforcing the importance of accurate and timely tourism statistics for planning and policy-making.

The activity underscored the province’s commitment to collaborative governance, capacity building, and data-driven decision-making in advancing a sustainable and competitive tourism industry in Surigao del Sur.
