The Research, Development, and Extension Division of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) of Surigao del Sur, in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Lingig, successfully conducted a 3-Day Bantay Peste Volunteer Brigade Training on April 27–29, 2026, at the Lingig Municipal Training Hall.

The training aimed to strengthen the capabilities of farmer-volunteers in pest monitoring, identification, and management, equipping them with practical knowledge to support sustainable crop production in their respective communities.

Day 1 of the activity began with opening preliminaries attended by Municipal Mayor Hon. Elmer P. Evangelio, who expressed his support for initiatives that empower farmers and enhance agricultural productivity in the municipality. Municipal Agriculturist Ricky Tubo also joined the activity, highlighting the importance of strengthening local partnerships in implementing agricultural programs. After the opening program, the training proper commenced through a series of lectures focusing on key concepts in pest management, including identification, monitoring, and control strategies.

On Day 2, the lectures continued, providing participants with more in-depth discussions on pest life cycles, economic thresholds, and appropriate management practices. The sessions emphasized the importance of timely and science-based decision-making in minimizing crop damage and improving yields.

Day 3 highlighted the practical application of learning through Agro-Ecosystem Analysis (AESA). Participants were guided on AESA procedures, including field observation, data gathering, processing, and presentation. This hands-on activity enabled the farmer-volunteers to analyze field conditions and develop informed pest management recommendations based on actual observations.

The training concluded with a simple graduation ceremony, where participants shared their insights and experiences gained throughout the three-day activity. Many expressed appreciations for the knowledge and skills they acquired, noting that these would greatly help them in managing pests and assisting fellow farmers in their communities.

The successful conduct of the training underscores the continued commitment of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist of Surigao del Sur and the Municipal Agriculture Office of Lingig to promote sustainable agriculture through capacity-building initiatives and active community engagement.
