Related to calendar event Carrying Capacity Development Seminar Workshop Jun 30, 2026

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur — The Department of Tourism (DOT)–Caraga, in partnership with the Provincial Tourism Office of Surigao del Sur, conducted a two-day Carrying Capacity Development Seminar-Workshop on June 30 to July 1, 2026, at Uptown Corporate Hotel, Tandag City.

The activity brought together Municipal Tourism Officers and representatives from the Municipal and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO/PENRO) from different local government units in the province.

The seminar focused on the concept of carrying capacity in tourism, which helps determine the number of visitors a destination can accommodate while maintaining the quality of its natural environment and the overall visitor experience. Participants were introduced to the principles of carrying capacity assessment and its importance in planning and managing tourism destinations sustainably.

On the second day, participants proceeded to Kaliguan White Beach Resort in Cagwait for a field practicum. They conducted data gathering and site assessment activities, giving them the opportunity to apply the concepts discussed during the lectures to an actual eco-tourism destination.

The hands-on exercise also encouraged participants to work together in assessing the site's tourism conditions and identifying factors that should be considered in managing visitor use while protecting the area's natural resources.

The seminar-workshop forms part of the continuing efforts of the Department of Tourism and the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur to strengthen the capacity of local government units in sustainable tourism management. By equipping tourism and environmental officers with practical knowledge and skills, the program supports the province's goal of developing tourism in a way that benefits local communities while preserving its natural attractions for future generations.
