FIRE BRIGADE TRAINING FOR DRRM VOLUNTEERS AND PARTNERS
The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur under the leadership of Governor Alexander T. Pimentel, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in partnership with the Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal led by Chief Insp. Kenneth Van S. Delos Reyes facilitated the conduct of "Fire Brigade Training for DRRM Volunteers and Partners" on October 24-28, 2022 at Shacene Pension House and Restaurant, Tandag City, Surigao del Sur. This training enable the participants to identify the conditions capable of causing fire, know how to use a fire extinguisher, respond appropriately to fire emergencies and follow the fire evacuation plan knowledgeably. In addition, the trained DRRM Volunteers and Partners will serve as force multiplier when the need arises.

PSWDO recorded high rate during the 2022 Social Delivery Capacity Assessment
On September 19, 2022, in the PSWD Office in Telaje, Tandag City, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Surigao del Sur received a score of 2.193 percent during the 2022 Social Delivery Capacity Assessment. The Regional Technical Assistance and Monitoring Team (RTAMT) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office completed the aforementioned assessment (DSWD). The main objective is to evaluate the functionality of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Surigao del Sur in providing social welfare services and to incorporate suggestions made by the RTAMT to improve the provision of social services. The efficiency of the Social Welfare Services implemented and the roles of the focal person in charge of program execution are additional objectives of the program. The administration and organization, human resource and management development, public financial management, support services, program management, monitoring and reporting, institutional mechanism, and inter-office collaboration were among the areas that the Regional Technical Assistance and Monitoring Team (RTAMT) examined using the 2022 Service Delivery Capacity Assessment Tool. The program will search for various forms of verification from various fields in accordance with the guidelines stated in the tool. Additionally, a number of staff members of the PSWDO were interviewed, and observations were made as a foundation for ranking the various areas. Jenny P. Marturillas, Team Leader, RTAMT, praised the PSWDO for receiving the high percentage and the respectable rating. The Search
The Provincial Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office through its representative, Ms. Lucille B. Tero, Aquaculturist I, attended the Consultation Meeting with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) on the Management Programs of the Coastal Communities Alliance Unified for Sustainable Ecosystem (CCAUSE) - Lianga-Hinatuan-Bislig Bays last October 24, 2022 at Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, Lianga, Surigao del Sur. The said international group is looking for an institution to be its partner which they could fund with any development projects that they could offer. CCAUSE is an alliance of the municipalities from Tago to Lingig areas. The meeting was a successful event and was attended by BFAR personnel headed by its Regional Director, Mr. Nilo Selim Katada, Ph.D. and representatives coming from the different municipalities located in CCAUSE areas.

PSWDO conducts orientation on RA 11642 in partnership with DSWD
Together with Ms. Ma. Paula S. Gallardo, RSW, LCPC Focal and the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) is implementing social services in the province of Surigao del Sur. On August 17, 2022, at Shacene Pension House and Restaurant, Mabua, Tandag City an orientation was conducted on Republic Act 11642 or the Alternative Parental Care Program for Social Workers who handle adoption from the different Municipalities. The goals of the aforementioned activity were to understand the recently passed laws, memorandum circulars, and recent issuances on adoption and foster care, to raise issues and concerns regarding their implementation, to classify roles and functions in accordance with RA 11642, and to address procedural issues that transcends across agencies. The orientation also aims to ensure that service providers of alternative child care are familiar with and comprehend the Domestic Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act, Memorandum Circular 03 series of 2022, and other relevant issuances. Hershe L. Nuñez, RSW, OIC-PSWDO, opened the event with a welcome speech and stated that handling adoption is difficult, especially since it is a drawn-out procedure. She exhorts the participants to think about the wellbeing of the kids who are their main customers. The dialogs from RA 11642 by Thesa Joy B. Musa, RSW, RACC officer, came next. The conversations only center on in-depth discussions about RA 11642. She also goes over the specific forms that are required and how to complete them in accordance with the rules and regulations. Gallardo, RSW, LCPC Focal together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) conducted orientation on Republic Act 11642 or the Alternative Parental Care Program to Social Workers who handle adoption from the different Municipalities on August 17, 2022 at Shacene Pension House and Restaurant, Mabua, Tandag City. The objectives of the said activity were: to appreciate the newly enacted law, memorandum circular, and recent issuances on adoption and foster care, raise issues and concerns in the implementation of laws, circulars and issuances, classify roles and functions based on RA 11642, resolve procedural concerns that transcends across agencies. The orientation also targets in ensuring the common knowledge and understanding on the Domestic Adoption and Alternative Child Care Act, Memorandum Circular 03 series of 2022 and other related issuances among service providers of alternative child care. The activity started with a welcome address by Hershe L. Nuñez, RSW, OIC-PSWDO, she shared that handling adoption is not easy especially it is a long process. She encourages the participants that they should consider the welfare of the children who are their primary clients. It was followed by the dialogs of RA 11642 by Thesa Joy B. Musa, RSW, RACC officer. The discussions revolves solely in deep discussions on RA 11642. PSWD Officer attends the Culmination Program on Elderly Filipino Week Celebration
In the Local Government Unit of Cagwait and Carmen, Surigao del Sur, Ms. Hershe L. Nuñez, RSW, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer, attended the culmination event on Elderly Filipino Week Celebration. In her speeches, Ms. Nuñez underlined the value of elderly persons' contributions to the development of the country. On October 21, 2022, at the Aras-asan Gymnasium, the Local Government Unit of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur, held the culmination program for the celebration of Elderly Filipino Week.Mr. Mayonito Fernan E. Ramos gave a lecture on the 2010 Expanded Senior Citizen Act, while Dr. Sherwin F. Mantilla distributed information on health procedures and good hygiene. Additionally, there were free salon services like haircuts and pedicures as well as medical and dental examinations and games. The celebration ended through the turn-over of assistive device. On October 25, 2022, at Carmen Municipal Gymnasium, the Local Government Unit of Carmen Surigao del Sur held the same culminating program. A number of activities, including lectures on senior citizen-related laws and parlor games, were also held. Senior citizen representatives from several barangays, barangay authorities, and employees from the Local Government Unit all took part in the culmination program. PDAO and PWD conducted 3rd Quarterly Meeting
The third quarterly meeting of the Provincial Federation of Persons with Disability (PWD) and the Persons with Disability Affairs Officers (PDAO) was held on October 24, 2022, at Shacene Pension House & Restaurant in Mabua, Tandag City, under the direction of Mrs. Sheila T. Arizobal, RSW, PDAO/PWD.The objectives of the meeting is to increase motivation, promote full cooperation, strengthen team work and instill value of competence and excellence in the delivery of service particularly to the PWD’s and PDAO’s. The following agenda were discussed: Pre-Evaluation of CY 2022 PPA; Finalization of PPA’s for program of work CY 2023; Status of Procurement-basketball wheel chair; International Disability Day Observance; CY Polo Shirt Uniform; Election of PDAO Officers, Incentive Status, Accomplishment Report, Oath-taking of Newly Elected PDAO officers. The activity served as a forum for the officers to discuss their struggles and a way to keep track of how the program and services they had put in place were going. The PDAO, PWD officers, and some MSWDO employees attended the meeting. After the discussion of the activity's essential topics, Mrs. Arizobal reminded the participants that the program and services they are executing are primarily focused on the well-being of their clients.
