Turn-over Ceremony of Livelihood Assistance to Federation of Persons with Disability The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office-SDS headed by Hon. Alexander T. Pimentel, Provincial Governor through Mrs. Hershe Lorenzana-Nuñez, RSW, PSWDO, together with Mrs. Sheila T. Arizobal, RSW, PWD Focal Person spearheaded the turn-over ceremony of livelihood assistance to Federation of Person with Disability with the amount of One hundred Fifty Thousand Pesos (₱150,000.00) on November 7, 2022, at Terraza Victoria, Barobo, Surigao del Sur. The said amount is the expression of support of the Provincial Government to the Bangus Production Project managed by the Federation of Person with Disability in the Municipality of Barobo. The checked was received by Hon. Mayor Joey Pama together with Nancy Silva, Chairwoman on Social Committee; Ronnie Ramos, Municipal Agriculturist Officer; and Marilou Godito, MSWDO. The said event was witnessed by the PWD chapter presidents and members. The activity fell under the umbrella of PSWDO's program and services for people with disabilities. These services include disability prevention, rehabilitation, and equal opportunity for people who are physically, mentally, or socially disabled. The goal is to increase these people's capacity to lead more fulfilling, fruitful, and satisfying lives and, ultimately, to become independent and contributing members of society. by Junie A. 22nd Gawad KALASAG Seal for Local DRRM Councils and Offices The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur through the leadership of Governor Alexander T. Pimentel bagged the National Award for being "Beyond Compliant" for the Gawad KALASAG Seal for Local DRRM Councils and Offices. The following are the list of awarded Cities/Municipalities of the Province of Surigao del Sur; to wit: the Municipalities of Carrascal, Cortes, Lanuza, Marihatag, Tagbina, Hinatuan, Cagwait awarded as "Beyond Compliant"; the City Government of Bislig and Tandag as well as the Municipalities of Cantilan, Barobo, Bayabas, Carmen, Madrid, San Agustin, and San Miguel conferred as "Fully Compliant".

BATCH DISTRIBUTION OF PERSONAL COMPUTERS (PCs) TO BE USED AS DATA BASE SERVERS In view of the inter-link replication of encoded FAAS/TDs between the municipal and provincial offices in preparation for the 2023 General Revision of Schedule of Market Values, the Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur, under the leadership of Governor Alexander T. Pimentel, through the Office of the Provincial Assessor, spearheaded by Ms. Sabina C. Noguera, has conducted the Batch Distribution of Personal Computers (PCs) to be used as Data Base Servers to 13 Municipalities of the Province, to wit:  1. Municipality of Cagwait 2. Municipality of Cantilan 3. Municipality of Carmen 4. Municipality of Cortes 5. Municipality of Hinatuan 6. Municipality of Lanuza 7. Municipality of Lingig 8. Municipality of Madrid 9. JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING ON LCAT-VAWC AND LCPC The Office of Provincial Social Welfare and Development, which is under the administration of the Honorable Governor Alexander Ty Pimentel who was effectively represented by Mr. Esmeraldo S. Raymundo, Provincial Administrator during the conduct of Joint Committee Meeting for the Reconstitution of the Provincial Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Women and their Children and Local Council for the Protection of Children on November 10, 2022 at PGO Conference Room in Capitol Hills, Telaje, Tandag City. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Raymundo, who also gave an overview of the LCPC and LCAT-VAWC. The meeting was arranged by the PSWDO personnel under the direction of Mrs. Hershe L. Nuñez, RSW, PSWDO, in collaboration with Ms. Pia B. Curada, RSW, LCAT-VAWC Focal, and Ms. Paula S. Gallardo, RSW, LCPC Focal. The guidelines for LCAT-VAWC were given to the plenary by Ms. Curada, and the guidelines for LCPC by Ms. Gallardo. Mr. Raymundo continued to speak to the plenary on the creation of the executive orders for the LCAT-VAWC and LCPC and encouraged the participants for the necessity of the committees' reconstitution. The committee members from each department state their commitments to the council's initiatives and operations. The Provincial Budget Office, Civil Service Commission, Department of Labor and Employment, Provincial Planning and Development Office, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Office of the Provincial Agriculture, Taggapan ng Sagguniang Panlalawigan, Liga ng Barangay, Provincial Health Office, Provincial Administrators Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development Office, and Provincial Prosecutors Office were among the organizations represented at the meeting.

Infant and Young Child Feeding- Emergencies Training for Local Nutrition Workers Last November 8–10, 2022, at Bislig Highland Function Farm and Villa, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, the Provincial Governor's Office- Nutrition Division and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office headed by Mr. Alex Aranas conducted training on Infant and Young Child Feeding– Emergencies for Local Nutrition Workers to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding, especially during emergencies. This exercise is in keeping with the goals of supporting and promoting the First 1000 Days Program, which seeks to guarantee optimal nutrition for infants and children from conception 2 years of age. All types of malnutrition, including underweight, stunting, wasting, and obesity, can be cured within the first 1000 days. Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) is concerned with ensuring that infants and young children receive safe and appropriate nutrition in all types of emergencies in order to ensure their survival, health, and development. It must be incorporated into the emergency preparedness and response strategies and calls for the cooperation of numerous specialties. City/Municipal Nutrition Action Officers and Provincial Nutrition Committee representatives attended the aforementioned course. It is indeed grateful that funds were allocated for IYCF-E training for local nutritionists by our Honorable Governor, Alexander T. Pimentel, and the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Office, which is headed by Mr. Alex Aranas.

Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines 23rd National Convention The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur thru the Provincial Tourism Office joined the 23rd National Convention of the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) held at Taal Vista Hotel, Tagaytay City last October 26-29, 2022 with the theme, “Rethinking Tourism”. This year's event was the first face-to-face convention since pandemic which made it extra special and exciting. Tourism Officers and Public Officials nationwide gathered to promote camaraderie and unity in promoting and boosting the Tourism Industry of the Philippines. Among the Guest Speakers were the Department of Tourism-OIC Asst. Secretary for Tourism Development, Mr. Warner M. Andrada and Ms. Nelly Nita Dillera, DTI Philippines Executive Director shared that the tourist arrivals dropped undeniably not only in our country but also internationally because of the pandemic. This explains the theme of World Tourism Organization that indeed there is a need to rise up, reskill and transform the overall tourist experience. To top it all, this convention enables the delegates to capacitate themselves especially in today’s rampant change in the industry where capacitated tourism movers from all sectors is a must in order to enhance and improve the delivery process of all services that the tourism industry offers.

PSWD Officer attends Children’s Month Celebration at San Miguel On November 10, 2022, at the Poblacion Gymnasium in San Miguel, Surigao del Sur, Mrs. Hershe Lorenzana-Nuñez, RSW, PSWDO, attended the Local Government Unit of San Miguel's observance of Children's Month with the theme ‘’Kalusugan, Kaisipan, at Kapakanan ng Bawat Bata Ating Tutukan’’. Parents, staff of LGU San Miguel, and other stakeholders present at the event heard Mrs. Nuñez's motivational speech. Children's activities included a number of games, the inauguration of petite king and queen, and a royal march and dance.   The Honorable Mayor Michael T. Corilla, ably represented by the Honorable Vice-Mayor Reynaldo F. Demoto challenged and inspired the attendees, saying that everyone should be concerned about the wellbeing of the kids. Additionally, Mrs. Nuñez helped crown the Petite King and Queen. Members of the Sagguniang Bayan, child development specialists, MSWDO employees, parents, and kids from various Barangays in San Miguel participated in the activity.

Information Education Campaign The LGU Carmen, under the leadership of Mayor Jane V. Plaza, thru the Office of the Municipal Agriculture of Carmen, Surigao del Sur, headed by Municipal Agriculturist, Mr. Laury Lauron, conducted a four-day Intensive Livestock and Poultry Information Education Campaign last November 8 to 11, 2022. Dr. Diosdado Derigay of the Provincial Veterinary Office was invited to serve as a Technical Resource Speaker to talk about Rabies, Surra, Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) and African Swine Fever (ASF). A total of 295 livestock and poultry farmers from eight (8) barangays of Carmen attended the said affair and were enlightened about the mentioned diseases. The 4-day information education campaign aims to help our livestock and poultry farmers with the proper approach should they encounter such diseases and also to promote awareness about the livestock and poultry situation within the province and in the Philippines as a whole. #veterinaryservices #Rabies #Surra #BirdFlu #ASF #ProvincialVeterinaryOffice #SurigaodelSur

Simultaneous Coastal/River Clean up The Provincial Government of Surigao del Sur thru Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office – Local Government Unit conducted a 'Simultaneous Coastal/River Clean-up drive' last June 18, 2022 in celebration of the 62nd Araw ng Surigao del Sur participated by seventeen (17) municipalities and two(2) cities in the province in order to raise awareness on waste management in coastal and river areas. This was also enjoined  by twenty-five (25) volunteers from the Red Mountain Lodge No. 241 Masonry as a way of supporting this year's celebration  as well as to inspire and challenge the communities to practise the core values of Integrity, Friendship, Respect, Charity amidst pandemic.

Site Assessment on the Proposed Area for the SLF Construction of Cluster 3 PENRO-LGU conducted a Site Assessment and Validation on the proposed area for the establishment of Clustered Sanitary Landfill of Cluster 3 namely: Municipalities of Barobo, Lianga and San Agustin-as host LGU last October 20-21, 2022 located at Km.5, Brgy. Buatong, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur together with the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-CARAGA) staff using drone.  This was eventually their 3rd proposed area which might be feasible for the construction of Clustered Sanitary Landfill since their first and second attempt were not viable.
