Cagwait is a 4th class municipality situated in the central part of the province of Surigao del Sur. The town is approximately 32 kilometers away from Tandag City, the capital town of the Province. It is one of the 13 municipalities comprising the first congressional district that straddles along the coast of the Pacific Ocean and Mount Diwata. It has a total land area of 21,410 hectares that comprises about 4.70% of the total land area of Surigao del Sur. Cagwait is endowed with natural resources such as timber, abaca, rice and coconut. Fish also abounds in the coastal area that makes her a good fishing ground. Furthermore, Cagwait is known for its beautiful white sand beach considered as the major tourist attraction in the locality.
